Service Animal Policy

The Equator Resort welcomes guests with disabilities and welcomes their service animals. We recognize the important role that service animals play in the lives of people with disabilities, and the many ways that service animals enhance the independence of people with disabilities.

Since March 15, 2011, only dogs are recognized as service animals under the ADA. A separate provision of the ADA also allows admission of miniature horses that have been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities.

A service animal is a dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability.

When checking in with a service dog, you will be asked to fill out a form just accepting the below policies. If you have any difficulty doing so, our staff will gladly provide you with any assistance you need. The information on this form is private and for internal purposes only and will only be reviewed by staff members

  1. Please note that you must be with the service dog at all times – you may not leave it alone at any time, including in your room.
  2. The service dog must be under control at all times, and the dog must be harnessed, leashed, or tethered, unless these devices interfere with the service animal’s work or your disability prevents you from using these devices. If your disability prevents you from using these devices, please let us know how you plan to maintain control, through voice, signal, or other effective controls.
  3. You agree that you are responsible for care and feeding of your dog and for cleaning up after your dog. Staff will not perform these services.
  4. In the event that your dog is out of control and you do not take timely, effective action to control it, or your dog is not housebroken, we may ask you to leave. Before doing so, we will offer you an opportunity to enjoy our goods and services in the absence of the dog.
  5. We do not charge a fee for cleaning up after your service dog, but we charge all guests for any damage done to the property, including damage to the property caused by you or by your service dog.

We look forward to serving you during your stay with us. Feel free to contact our manager (manager@equatorresort.com)  if you have any questions.
